Whitetail Deer Hunting – Kansas Success!!

Hunting big Kansas whitetail bucks is one of the hunts I look forward to the most through out my hunting schedule. This year was no different, except that I got to share with some friends from my hometown of Las Cruces, NM. The same place as last year, we were hunting with Brad and Dan Rather of Grandpa Boone’s Cabin in Milford, KS. Here the bucks are big and the company is great!

My buddy Sam Salopek killed a great buck his second sit ever in a treestand. The buck came across a big ag field trailing a doe where he smacked him at 23 yards. WOW what a bruiser! He stretched the tape at 165 6/8″, pretty good for his first ever whitetail! Needless to say, this New Mexico native is hooked on whitetail hunting!

As far as I go I was able to take a great buck on camera and he came into 21 yards where I let the air out of him and he went down on camera. Cool stuff! My buck stretched the tape at 145 6/8″ but a great pre rut Kansas buck none the less!

Next will be a visit to the hospital for shoulder surgery and hopefully by turkey season I will be drawing my Hoyt bow like I used to!!!
